Short Bio

 

An accomplished American Cellist, Emily Grissing has performed at the Kennedy Center, Eastman Theatre, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, and King Concert Hall as a soloist.  As a teen she performed as a chamber musician in Italy, orchestra member in Italy and Austria, and soloist in Poland.  She is currently a section cellist with the Winston-Salem Symphony (NC), and on the sub-lists with the Erie Philharmonic (PA), and North Carolina Symphony.  Summers have been with the Aspen Music Festival and School with a full fellowship,  Eastern Festival Orchestra as an intern, NRO, NOI (principal positions), Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and Chautauqua Institution.  Ms. Grissing completed a Professional Artist Certificate in cello at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) in 2014.  She also received a Master’s from UNCSA in 2013 studying with Dr. Brooks Whitehouse.  While at UNCSA, she served as principal cello for the symphony, Opera, Nutcracker, dance, Korngold’s Much Ado About Nothing orchestras, and Cello I for a UNCSA film Molly Under the Moon in early 2012.  Receiving a Bachelor’s in cello performance from SUNY Fredonia, Emily Grissing’s other principal cello teachers include Dr. Natasha Farny, Mary Ann Wukovitz and David Geber.  In June 2011, Emily was honored to become a student at a Conducting Symposium at the Sibelius Academy, working with conductors Peter Ettrup Larsen and Dr. Paula Holcomb.  There she conducted the Finnish National Guard’s Band and a wind chamber group of Sibelius Academy students.  While Emily thrives on her classical training and is deeply passionate performing operatic works, she treasures all forms of music genre and a wide variety of collaborations with instrumentalists, singers, dancers, composers, writers, visual artists and filmmakers.
